Negotiation Competition for Law Students

The South Texas College of Law in Houston hosts an Energy Law Negotiation Competition that  provides students with an opportunity to develop their negotiation skills with real world fact patterns based on current issues in the field of energy law.

The 5th Annual Energy Law Negotiation Competition will be held on April 6-7, 2019.
Registration for the 2019 competition is now open. The registration fee is $350.

Securities Dispute Resolution: Negotiation, Mediation and Arbitration

The Securities Dispute Resolution Triathlon is a joint initiative of St. John's University's Center for Dispute Resolution and the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority (FINRA). For two days, student teams from law schools around the country meet to test their advocacy skills in the negotiation, mediation and arbitration of a securities dispute.

Students play the roles of attorneys and clients, with some teams in the role of investor and others in the role of broker-dealer. Members of FINRA’s roster of experienced neutrals serve as mediators, arbitrators and judges, critiquing the student teams. Teams are composed of three students, and the competition takes place over two days.

International Mediation and Law School Mediation Tournament

The International Academy of Dispute Resolution and Loyola University Chicago School Of Law’s Dispute Resolution Program Present the INADR World Mediation Congress and 17th Annual International Law School Mediation Tournament.

The Congress will take place March 6-7 and will feature speakers and workshops covering all things mediation, highlighted by “The Conflict of Politics and The Politics of Conflict: How to Think About and Respond to Political Conflicts” by Kenneth Cloke.

March 8-10, Loyola University Chicago School of Law will be hosting the mediation tournament with law students from around the world competing and learning about mediation.

The American Bar Association Section of Dispute Resolution Spring Conference in Washington, D.C., from April 4-7, has a discount available. You must be a law student at an accredited law school or an attorney with less than five years’ experience .

Law Students as Mediators

Law students practice their skills as mediators in the Jeffry S. Abrams National Mediator Competition, which is sponsored by the Blakely Advocacy Institute of the University of Houston Law Center.

Win $1000 in Law Student Writing Competition on ADR

Law students can win $1000 in the Boskey Law Student Essay Contest on Dispute Resolution, sponsored by the ABA Section of Dispute Resolution in memory of James B. Boskey, a Seton Hall University law professor, and mediator.

Open to Law Schools and Law Students: Representation in Mediation Competition

Registration for the 2017 ABA Law Student National Representation in Mediation Competition is open.  Regional competition rounds will be held this February and March across the country.  The final rounds will take place during the Dispute Resolution Section's Spring Conference in San Francisco this April.
